The Works of Alphonse Daudet, Vol. 1: Little What's-His-Name; To Which Is Added the Belle-Nivernaise; How Jarjaille Went to Heaven, and Other Stories (Classic Reprint) by Alphonse Daudet Excerpt from The Works of Alphonse Daudet, Vol. 1: Little

What's-His-Name; To Which Is Added the Belle-Nivernaise; How Jarjaille Went to Heaven, and Other StoriesHowever this may be, it is quite clear that when he wrote Le Petit Clzose in his early man hood, he succeeded in producing one of the most delightfully idyllic of his works, one that will probably continue to be read as long as any of the more powerful novels of his prime. It is much to his credit as a man and a writer that the misfortunes France underwent in 1870-1871 should have turned Little what's-his-name into a great novelist; but it will perhaps seem to some people more to his credit that his youthful vicissi tudes and his precarious health should have left his exquisite nature as untouched as it appears to be in the first half of his poetical autobiog raphy. Hence it seems unlikely that the Daudet Of the Nabab will ever inflict upon the Daudet of Le Petit Chose the fate that the Daudet of the early poems has already undergone.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
